What we look for in antique & contemporary art pieces

We here, at Harbourfront Antiques, have a deep appreciation for both antique and contemporary art, with a special interest in pieces that reflect Canadian heritage, including works by artists who evoke the spirit of Emily Carr or the Group of Seven. We're drawn to landscapes, abstract works, and anything that captures the natural beauty of Canada—particularly art that highlights the wilderness or Indigenous culture. For Canadian Indigenous art, we look for pieces that embody traditional craftsmanship with modern interpretations, often featuring vibrant colors, symbolic patterns, and deep connections to nature and community. Sculptures, carvings, and paintings that tell a story or reflect the artist’s heritage are always captivating.

We also buy art from other time periods and different parts of the world. Naturally gravitating toward art that has historical significance or offers unique, contemporary perspectives. When considering a piece from a seller, we look for authenticity, originality, and condition, while also assessing its potential market appeal.
